PROJECT OVERVIEW
This project involved the layout planning, cabinetry design, and finish selections for a new build kitchen intended to feel timeless, elevated, and architectural. From the spatial configuration to the smallest material detail, the goal was to create a space that read as intentional and custom—more like a refined furniture installation than a standard kitchen.
DESIGN INTENT
The intent was to design a kitchen that would remain relevant and beautiful well beyond the trend cycle. The clients wanted a space rooted in timeless proportion and natural materials, with depth and richness that would age gracefully.
Equally important was maintaining visual restraint. Appliances were to be fully concealed or relocated to the scullery so the primary kitchen could function as a composed, architectural showpiece rather than a utilitarian workspace.
KEY CHALLENGES
The floor plan required the sink to be located in the island, which serves as both the central workspace and a primary gathering zone. The challenge was integrating this functional element in a way that felt intentional and unobtrusive while preserving ample seating and flow.
Balancing concealment with accessibility was another consideration. The design needed to support everyday cooking and hosting while maintaining the clean, furniture-like aesthetic the clients envisioned.
DESIGN APPROACH
The layout and cabinetry were thoughtfully planned to prioritize symmetry, proportion, and circulation. Built-in refrigerator and freezer columns were integrated along the back wall and finished with cabinetry fronts, allowing them to disappear into the architectural composition of the space.
A concealed larder was incorporated within the main kitchen to house the coffee station and smaller appliances. Pocket doors slide back when in use and close seamlessly when not, preserving the kitchen’s refined appearance.
Material selections emphasized natural finishes and subtle contrast to create warmth and depth without relying on trend-driven details. The overall cabinetry design reinforces a cohesive, furniture-inspired aesthetic that anchors the space.
OUTCOME
The finished kitchen feels architectural, composed, and enduring. The layout supports real-life function and gathering, while concealed appliances and custom cabinetry allow the space to read as intentional and elevated.
What could have been a standard new build kitchen instead feels tailored, cohesive, and built to stand the test of time.
