PROJECT OVERVIEW
This project focused on furnishing and styling a two-story great room at the completion of a new build. While the architectural shell was complete, the clients struggled to envision a furniture layout that worked with the scale of the space and the existing circulation paths.
DESIGN INTENT
The intent was to create a great room that felt elevated, timeless, and intentionally designed—one that honored the home’s architecture while feeling comfortable and livable. Given the room’s scale and ceiling height, the design needed to feel grounded and cohesive rather than sparse or overly formal.
KEY CHALLENGES
The primary challenge was layout. A large glass slider on one side of the room and an active walkway leading to the primary suite on the opposite side made traditional furniture placement difficult. The space required a thoughtful arrangement that preserved clear pathways while still creating a defined, inviting seating area.
Scale was also a consideration, as furnishings needed to feel proportional to the height and volume of the room.
DESIGN APPROACH
Furniture was arranged to create a balanced, symmetrical seating zone that anchored the room without obstructing circulation. Substantial silhouettes and layered textures were used to ground the space, while warm wood tones, tailored upholstery, and classic patterns contributed to a timeless aesthetic.
Accent chairs and occasional tables were carefully placed to maintain openness and flow, and lighting was selected to complement the verticality of the space while adding warmth at a human scale.
OUTCOME
The finished great room feels cohesive, welcoming, and thoughtfully resolved. The layout supports everyday living and movement through the home, while the furnishings and finishes elevate the space beyond a standard post-build interior. The result is a room that feels complete, balanced, and enduring—designed to age gracefully with the home.
